2001 U.S. OPEN
The Mojica Judo Club was well represented at the 2001 U.S.Open held in Las Vegas, NV October 13-14, 2001.

Yvonne Carrera & Cindy Imai competed on the first day. Yvonne was up first. Her opponent was Marija Djokic. Djokic defeated Yvonne with a yuko, but was unable to carry Yvonne into the next round.  Cindy's first match was against Sarah Clark-Great Britain. Sarah defeated Cindy and went on to win Gold. Cindy's first win was against Linda Kemp-Canada. She won her second match with a beautiful ippon again Gina Mattia-USA, putting her in the bronze medal match.  This time Cindy was up against, World Team member Telitha Ellis-USA. Cindy came home with fifth place. 

Alexandra Causey-48 kilos competed on the second day. Her first match was aginst Donna Robertson-Great Britain. Donna beat Alex and went on to take one of the bronze medals. Her final match was against Rosa Mendoza-Mexico. Alex came home with 7th place.

The excitement of the day was Yvonne's sister, Christine Carrera - 48 kilos. Christine has been training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs since 1996.  Her first win was against Kathy Ferrari-Great Britain. She then defeated Isabel Latulippe-Canada by decision. In her semi-final match, she defeated Fiona Robertson-Great Britan. The final was a repeat of this year's Senior Nationals, but with a different ending. With approximately 30 seconds left in the match, Christine scored a koka, beating Sayaka Matsumoto-USA for the Gold!.  She will represent the United States in Argentina at the Pan American Judo Union Championships in November.
