Alexandra Causey was first to compete in the 48 kilos division. She was defeated by An-Hoa Nguyer Labelle-Canada. An-Hoa was unable to carry Alex into the next round.
Cindy Imai & Yvonne Carrera competed on Sunday in the 63 kilos division. Cindy's first win was against Canada's #3 player, Linda Kemp. Her first lost was against Kellie Roberts-Great Britan. Kelly went on to take a bronze. Cindy then defeated Danielle Beaton-Canada and Alexandra Boulanger-Canada. The win against Alexandra, put Cindy into the finals for a bronze medal. Cindy's match was against 1992 Olympian and #1 USA player, Grace Jividen-Chapman. It was a very close match with Grace defeating Cindy by descision. Cindy took 5th.
Yvonne's first match was against Canada's #2 player, Isabelle Pearson. Her second match was against Gina Mattia-USA. A bit hurt from her first match Yvonne, was unable to compete at full strength, and lost to Gina.
The weekend's glory came again to Yvonne's sister, Christine Carrera. (2001 US Open Gold Medalist) Christine's first win was against, Jessica Sternick-USA. Her second win was against Canada's #4 player, Naoko Mori. With 1 second left in the semi final match, Christine ipponed Canada's #3 player, Isabel Latulippe with a choke. In finals, Christine beat Canada's #1 player, Carrie Murray with a yuko to bring home Gold.
Alex, Cindy & Yvonne will now take a small break from national and international competition and start preparing for next year. Christine will now prepare for the Pan American Judo Union Championships being held in Argentina in November.
